After School Program

The Refugee and Immigrant Association and the Iowa City Community School District are teaming up to launch an After-School Program for refugee and immigrant children. In its initial pilot phase, the project will serve fifth and sixth graders at Alexander Elementary School in Iowa City during the fall semester of 2017. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, University of Iowa volunteers will help the children with their homework and offer enrichment activities. The program will address the special situation of these children as they adjust to new schools and prepare for junior high. The pilot program will be evaluated as the basis for expansion in the future. For more information, please contact us at refugeeimmigrant@gmail.com.
